The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has intensified its crackdown on officials with dual nationality, signaling a firm commitment to rooting out corruption.
FBR Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial emphasized that a culture of integrity is being actively promoted within the institution, adding that the Prime Minister has issued clear directives that abuse of authority will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Minister of State for Finance, Bilal Azhar Kayani, speaking at a joint press conference with the FBR chairman, stated that the previous fiscal year witnessed improved economic performance.
He credited government measures for the notable reduction in inflation and described the IMF program as the foundation of ongoing economic stability.
Kayani affirmed that revenue targets were met without the introduction of a mini-budget, highlighting a 26% increase in FBR collections and stabilized foreign exchange reserves.
He reiterated the government’s determination to achieve its economic goals for the new fiscal year.
He also pointed out key relief measures in the budget, including adjustments to the tax slabs for salaried individuals and an increase in the Benazir Income Support Programme allocation from Rs. 592 billion to Rs. 616 billion, with a focus on export-led economic growth.
Chairman Langrial noted that the FBR remains accessible 24/7 to all taxpayers and reaffirmed the institution’s zero-tolerance policy on misuse of authority.
He stated that officers with questionable reputations are now under close scrutiny, and advanced technology is being leveraged to enhance revenue collection.
