Following a renewed wave of Iranian missile attacks, the Israeli military has admitted that its air defence systems are not impenetrable, as at least 15 people were killed and dozens more injured in what officials described as one of the most intense bombardments in recent days.
According to a statement from the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) issued late Saturday night, Iran launched two ballistic missiles, targeting key areas in Haifa and Tel Aviv, resulting in widespread damage and civilian casualties.
British media, including the BBC, reported significant destruction at Haifa port, a strategic facility in northern Israel. Israeli police confirmed that emergency teams were dispatched to the affected areas and were actively assisting the wounded.
In a rare admission of vulnerability, the IDF urged citizens to remain alert and follow safety protocols.
“Our air defence system is not impenetrable,” the army said in its public advisory. “We urge the public to seek shelter immediately upon hearing sirens and not to ignore official warnings.”
Sirens were heard throughout Tel Aviv, Haifa, and the Galilee region overnight, with residents rushing to underground shelters as explosions lit up the sky.
