Junaid Safdar, the son of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, became engaged on Wednesday night in Lahore to the granddaughter of one of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s first cousins, according to local media reports on Thursday.
This marks Junaid’s second engagement. He was previously married to Ayesha Saif, daughter of Qatar-based businessman Saifur Rahman Khan. The couple married in 2021 at The Lanesborough in Knightsbridge, London, during Nawaz Sharif’s exile. They amicably divorced in October 2023.
Following the end of his first marriage, Junaid returned to Pakistan full time in late 2023 to support his mother in her political duties.
An accomplished academic, Junaid Safdar holds two Bachelor’s and two Master’s degrees from universities in the United Kingdom. He earned his Master’s in International Relations from the London School of Economics in 2020 and another in Global Governance and Ethics from University College London.
In addition to his academic pursuits, he is also an avid polo player, having represented several British universities in competitive tournaments.
