HBO’s eagerly anticipated “Harry Potter” television adaptation has officially named its central trio. After an open casting call that drew over 30,000 hopefuls, Dominic McLaughlin will portray Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton has been cast as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout will take on the role of Ron Weasley.
“Under the exceptional guidance of casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are thrilled to introduce these three remarkable talents as Harry, Hermione, and Ron,” said showrunner Francesca Gardiner and executive producer/director Mark Mylod.
“We extend our deepest gratitude to every young actor who auditioned—we were amazed by the wealth of talent.”
McLaughlin, whose credits include the upcoming Sky comedy “Grow,” joins Stanton—known for her acclaimed portrayal of Matilda in the West End’s “Matilda: The Musical” (2023–2024)—and Stout, for whom this marks his first major screen role.
The series, written and run by Francesca Gardiner and directed in part by Mark Mylod, is a collaboration between HBO, Brontë Film and TV, and Warner Bros. Television. J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and David Heyman serve as executive producers.
Principal photography is scheduled to commence this summer.
