NEPRA approves Rs1.15/unit cut in basic electricity tariff

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved the government’s request to reduce basic electricity tariffs, allowing an average decrease of Rs1.14 per unit.

The new rates will take effect from July 1, 2025, and apply to domestic consumers nationwide, including K-electric consumers.

NEPRA made this decision after a hearing on a request filed by the Power Division, which sought to implement a uniform tariff across the country.

The authority has sent the decision to the federal government for official notification, after which it will be formally enforced.

According to officials, domestic users will see significant relief based on their consumption slabs. For protected users consuming up to 100 units, the tariff has been reduced by Rs1.15 to Rs10.54 per unit.

For protected users consuming between 101 and 200 units, the new tariff will be Rs13.01 per unit.

Non-protected users will also benefit from lower rates. Those using up to 100 units will now pay Rs 22.44 per unit, while users consuming 101 to 200 units will pay Rs 28.91, 201 to 300 units Rs 33.10, 301 to 400 units Rs 37.99, 401 to 500 units Rs 40.22, 501 to 600 units Rs 41.62, 601 to 700 units Rs 42.76, and those consuming more than 700 units will pay Rs 47.69 per unit.
