Due to the large-scale export of meat from the country, there is a shortage of sacrificial animals in Pakistan this year, due to which the prices are 50-80% higher than last year.
According to animal traders, a calf that cost Rs 200,000 last year is worth Rs 350,000 this year. Small animals have also become more expensive, so their prices have also increased by 80% compared to last year.
According to experts, due to the shortage of animals, prices may increase further as Eid-ul-Adha approaches.
It should be noted that as a result of government efforts, the inflation rate in the country has significantly decreased; however, due to the increasing export of meat, the prices of beef have increased to Rs 1,600 per kg, while mutton has reached Rs 2,500 per kg.
According to experts, due to the decrease in the purchasing power of the public and the sharp increase in the prices of animals, it is likely that the number of people sacrificing on Eid this year will be significantly lower than last year.
